Customs Entry Writer

Position Summary

The part-time Customs Brokerage Entry Writer is responsible for preparing, processing, and monitoring U.S. Customs entries to support the timely clearance and delivery of imported shipments. The position manages entries throughout the clearance lifecycle, from pre-arrival and arrival monitoring through CBP/PGA release and entry summary processing.

The Entry Writer works closely with the brokerage team and other internal and external stakeholders to resolve clearance issues, meet established service-level agreements (SLAs), and minimize delays in the movement and delivery of goods.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor assigned shipments, including departure, transit, arrival, and customs clearance status.

Review shipment and commercial documentation for completeness and identify missing or inconsistent information requiring follow-up.

Prepare and transmit CBP Form 3461 / entry-release data through the company's ABI customs brokerage system.

Prepare and process CBP Form 7501 / Entry Summary, including required entry and line-level information.

Enter and validate information such as importer of record, manufacturer/MID, HTS classification, country of origin, value, quantity, and other required customs data in accordance with established procedures.

Apply applicable duty, fee, Chapter 99, and other entry information based on approved classification and brokerage procedures.

Monitor CBP and Partner Government Agency (PGA) messages, holds, examinations, and release statuses.

Identify and promptly escalate CBP or PGA holds, rejects, documentation requests, examinations, or other clearance exceptions.

Follow up on pending holds and releases with the appropriate brokerage team members, carriers, warehouses/CFS facilities, customers, government agencies, or other stakeholders as required.

Confirm that all applicable CBP and PGA requirements have been satisfied before treating a shipment as released.

Monitor shipments through final customs/PGA release and communicate release status to appropriate stakeholders.

Maintain timely communication with brokerage team members and other departments regarding shipment status, exceptions, and actions required.

Prioritize shipments and clearance activities to support established SLA requirements and scheduled delivery of goods.

Maintain accurate entry records, supporting documentation, correspondence, and system notes in accordance with company procedures and customs recordkeeping requirements.

Assist with entry corrections and other post-entry activities as assigned.

Escalate compliance concerns, unusual transactions, classification questions, PGA issues, AD/CVD concerns, quota issues, or other matters requiring review by a

licensed customs broker or compliance team.

Follow established brokerage SOPs, internal controls, customer instructions, and

U.S. Customs requirements.

Perform other customs brokerage and operational duties as assigned.

Be available for a shift primarily between 6-10am Eastern time

Qualifications

Experience in customs brokerage, import operations, logistics, freight forwarding, or a related field preferred.

Experience preparing U.S. Customs entries and working with CBP Form 3461 and Form 7501 preferred.

Familiarity with ACE/ABI customs processing and customs brokerage software preferred.

General understanding of HTS classification, country of origin, customs valuation, duties and fees, PGA requirements, and import documentation.

Ability to interpret CBP/ACE messages and monitor customs and PGA release statuses.

Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in shipment and entry data.

Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a time-sensitive operational environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to coordinate effectively with brokerage personnel, operations teams, carriers, warehouses, customers, and other stakeholders.

Strong organizational, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently while recognizing when an issue requires escalation.

Performance in this role may be measured by entry accuracy, timely filing, SLA compliance, timely identification and escalation of holds or exceptions, release follow-up,

communication effectiveness, documentation quality, and contribution to on-time shipment delivery.

Compliance / Authority

The Entry Writer performs customs business under the direction and supervision of the licensed customs brokerage and in accordance with established procedures. Matters requiring interpretation, compliance judgment, or authorization beyond the employee's

assigned responsibilities must be escalated to the appropriate licensed customs broker or designated compliance personnel.

Wednesday to Sunday, from 6am to 10am Eastern Time
