What to know about the ASVAB
- The computer version (CAT-ASVAB) has 10 parts; the paper version has 9, because Auto and Shop are combined. Almost everyone takes it on a computer.
- The AFQT, the score that matters most for enlisting, comes from four parts: Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension.
- Calculators are not allowed.
- You take it at a MEPS (there is one in Puerto Rico) or a MET site, and your recruiter signs you up. There is also an online version, the PiCAT, arranged through your recruiter.
- Test questions are controlled material: no legitimate source sells the real questions.
