Sectors that hire without experience

In Puerto Rico, the sectors that most frequently post entry-level positions include retail, restaurants and tourism, call centers, warehouses and distribution, and private security. In public employment, both the local government and the federal government have entry-level support positions.

In the federal system, the lower General Schedule grades (for example GS-2 through GS-4) and student/recent-graduate programs are entry doors that don't require years of prior experience.

Your first application, with no history

Without formal experience, your resume is built from what you do have: education, courses and certifications, volunteer work, school or community projects, and skills (languages, computers, driver's license). Be specific: 'handled the cash register at fundraising events' is worth more than 'responsible'.

Bilingual Spanish/English skills are a real advantage in Puerto Rico; always include them with your honest level.

From entry job to career

An entry-level job is a platform: build 6–12 months of verifiable performance, ask for more responsibilities and document everything for your resume. If your goal is public or federal employment, that early record is exactly the 'specialized experience' the next grades will require.
